What You Need
- Cardboard or cardstock cut into nail shapes (trace a real nail or print a template)
- Dot markers / bingo daubers in multiple colors
- A silicone mat to work on (keeps the table clean)
- Optional: stickers for extra decoration
How to Set It Up
- Cut 10 nail shapes from cardboard — one for each finger. They don't need to be perfect.
- Lay them out on the silicone mat with 3–4 dot marker colors.
- Tell your child it's time to go to the "nail salon" and they get to be the nail artist.
- Let them dot, swirl, and decorate however they like — no wrong answers.
- When they're done, line up the nails and admire the collection together.
What Kids Are Learning
- Fine motor control — pressing a dot marker requires intentional grip and pressure
- Color recognition and mixing — what happens when two colors overlap?
- Imaginative play — the "nail salon" frame turns a simple craft into a whole scenario
- Focused attention — working on small shapes builds concentration
Tips from Olya
- Pre-cut the nails during naptime so setup is instant when you pull it out.
- Store them in a zip bag — kids can use the same set multiple times or build a collection.
- Add googly eyes or gem stickers for an extra level of excitement.
- Works great as a quiet time activity once the routine is established.
